Dr. Maria Malliarou
Director
Dr. Maria Malliarou is a First-Level Professor at the Department of Nursing of the University of Thessaly with a specialization in “Occupational Health Nursing”. She directs the Laboratory for Innovation in Healthcare (EKAFY), as well as the Postgraduate Program in “Advanced Nursing Practice”, while she has over 25 years of clinical experience in military hospitals (Lieutenant Colonel, ret.).
She participates as an applicant or as a WP leader in various categories of European programs (Erasmus+, Interreg NEXT MED, Marie Skłodowska-Curie, CoVE, etc.) and has a strong presence in international networks, such as the Florence Network, ENETOSH and COPSOQ. She is the Erasmus Academic Coordinator and responsible for the Department’s extroversion. She is a certified evaluator in the registry of experts of the Hellenic Institute of Health Research (HFRI-EX-02252).
She holds two master’s degrees in Health Informatics (NKUA) and in Health Unit Management (Open University of Cyprus) and a doctoral degree from the NKUA. Since 2014 she has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Hellenic Open University.
She has supervised more than 100 theses and 5 doctoral candidates and 2 postdoctoral fellows. Her scientific work is reflected in numerous publications in international databases.

Kynos Nous is an interdisciplinary organization dedicated to Animal-Assisted Interventions (AAI), promoting evidence-based practices that enhance mental health, education, rehabilitation, and social inclusion. Since its establishment, the organization has implemented pioneering programs in hospitals, schools, and community settings, combining scientific expertise with specially trained intervention dogs. Through research, education, and clinical practice, Melambous contributes to the advancement of human–animal interaction and the development of innovative therapeutic and educational approaches.
Dr Evangelos (Vangelis) Diamantakos
Dr Evangelos (Vangelis) Diamantakos is an independent consultant with
extensive expertise in animal behaviour, training, welfare, and management. His
career encompasses senior roles in operations, education, and evaluation within
the canine industry, spanning sectors such as the armed forces, academia, and
the public, private, and charitable domains.
In addition to his consultancy work, Vangelis is a Clinical Animal Behaviourist
registered with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC) and a full
member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC). He offers
behavioural consultations for dogs and cats on veterinary referral in the UK,
Greece and Cyprus.
Vangelis is the author of three books and actively engages in research on topics
such as dog-assisted interventions, the human–animal bond, training methods,
and animal welfare. He is a Society for Companion Animal Studies (UK) trustee
and member of the Animal Assisted Interventions Alliance at the University of
Queensland (Australia) and Kynos Nous Dog Assisted Services team (Greece).
Dr Ioannis Chaniotakis
Dr Ioannis Chaniotakis is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), graduated from the
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and holds a PhD from the Medical School of the
National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
He has served for 20 years in the Hellenic Air Force (HAF) with the rank of Lieutenant
Colonel, currently working as a staff officer responsible for operational veterinary
support and the military working dog breeding program.
In addition to his military work, he acts as an external scientific collaborator in small
animal clinics, focusing on diagnostic endoscopy, ultrasound, and minimally invasive
surgery. He also shows a strong interest in animal welfare and behavior, actively
developing and implementing pioneer Animal-Assisted Interventions (AAIs) programs.
His rich academic background is reflected in numerous scientific papers published in
international peer-reviewed journals. Finally, he has delivered a wide range of oral
lectures and poster presentations at major domestic and international medical and
veterinary conferences. He is a Hellenic Association Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging
(Greece) trustee and member of the Kynos Nous Dog Assisted Services team (Greece).
